Enhanced Geothermal Systems
GEOS supports thermal-hydraulic-mechanical (THM) simulation for engineered geothermal systems.
Key Capabilities
- Thermal stimulation and hydro-shearing for reservoir creation
- Heat extraction and thermal drawdown prediction
- Induced seismicity assessment through coupled stress analysis
- Fracture network connectivity evaluation
- Multi-well EGS design optimization
Coupled THM Processes
The tight coupling between thermal, hydraulic, and mechanical processes is essential for capturing the nonlinear feedbacks that govern EGS performance. GEOS handles thermoelastic stress changes, thermally-driven fracture aperture evolution, and convective heat transport in fractured rock.
Induced Seismicity
GEOS provides the geomechanical framework needed to assess induced seismicity risk during stimulation and long-term circulation, including Coulomb stress analysis on pre-existing fault networks and rate-and-state friction modeling.
